The H-1 Challenge Coin
The H-1 Challenge Coin was designed by a Hawg, for fellow Hawgs, and is made available to those who wish they were Hawgs.
The West Point Crest is not displayed on the coin, in order to avoid any potential legal restrictions associated with the coin’s distribution.
The “Heads” side of the coin reflects the fierce ‘Root Hawg Or Die’ attitude that pervades Company H-1.
The “Tails” side displays the accomplishments of one of our most illustrious Hawgs, Colonel Frank Borman (pronounced “BOAR-man”). His name is not specifically included on the coin, because his historic missions were team efforts. As such, the coin inspires all Hawgs to selflessly execute all their assigned missions. His sense of DUTY brought great HONOR to our COUNTRY, and we fellow Hawgs are encouraged to follow his example.
The view of Earthrise from the moon is an homage to the iconic photo taken during his Apollo 8 Mission. The H-1 guidon orbiting the Earth reminds us that Colonel Borman took an actual H-1 guidon on his Gemini 7 flight, where it orbited the planet over 200 times. The guidon now resides in the West Point Museum and is available for viewing, upon request.
If you run into a fellow Hawg at a bar who can’t produce this coin, you are owed a drink!
Limited Edition (LE) Coin
The LE coins have subtle differences from the regular coin: some are obvious, while others may not be.
Due to the limited number produced, there is a special approval process associated with their initial distribution (current owners are free to gift/resell their coins without any approval required).
Recipients of the LE coins include:
Colonel Borman
All ‘75 Hawgs (or, in some cases, their survivors)
Participants in the H-1 Guidon-Coin Exchange
Class of 2025 Hawgs (our affiliated Class) who make it through Plebe Year
